Absorption of Gamma Radiation as a Possible Mechanism for Bigu: Theory and Data

Gary E. Schwartz

University of Arizona

The qigong state of bigu is believed to be supportedby the absorption of qi from the universe. Gamma radiationis ubiquitous in the cosmos and, according tosome, may be a possible source of energy for cellularfunctioning. When the concept of energy is integratedwith the concept of dynamical systems, the logic leadsto the theory—termed systemic memory—that predictsall systems, from the micro to macro, store informationand energy to various degrees. New research indicatesthat the human body absorbs gamma radiation fromthe environment and emits high-frequency X rays. There are substantial individual differences in theseeffects that appear to be related, in part, to the psychologicalstate of the person. Future research can deter-mineif bigu is associated with increased absorption ofgamma radiation and/or decreased emission of highfrequency X rays. The hypothesis that qi can be viewedas quality information is proposed.
